The Advantages Students Gain by Living Off-Campus in Madison, WI

Deciding where to live while attending school is one of the biggest decisions you will make concerning your college life. While living on-campus will be strongly encouraged by the admissions office, the smart student will instead choose UW off-campus housing. There are many reasons why this is so.

It’s Cheaper

As long as you do a little bit of research, living off-campus can be significantly cheaper than what you pay to live on-campus. For one thing, there are no premiums tacked onto an apartment, such as what you will find happens with dormitory room and board.

More Privacy

In a dormitory, you will never have true privacy because there will always be people coming and going. As well as the fact that you are basically crammed into a small room that you share with a stranger. This is obviously not an ideal situation. When you rent your own apartment, however, you can have all of the privacy that you need. If your roommate has company over, you can always retire to your bedroom to still have your own space. You may also choose to forgo a roommate altogether and rent the apartment all by yourself.

Gain Experience

Attending college is about more than just getting a formal education. It is about gaining a real-life experience as well. There is no way that you can get experience about how the real world works by living in a dormitory where all the rules are made for you, and you are not treated as an adult. When you live in UW off-campus housing, you will gain the experience needed to become a productive adult.
