Applying for and being accepted to an MBBS in USA is not an easy path for students from India. Conclusion: there are both academic issues to consider and the financial costs of both the degree programs and living abroad in another country.
Before applying to an MBBS in USA, there are a few important considerations for any student and his or her family to consider. Understanding the scope of the program and the admission requirements helps to determine if this is the best option.
Program Considerations
The MBBS in USA is a graduate program, which means students must first complete an undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) program in the USA. Many students choose a Pre-Med degree program. To complete this, a student will need to write the SAT or Scholastic Aptitude Test, complete the application, and pass a TOEFL or English proficiency exam. The Bachelor’s degree is four years.
After graduation from the Pre-Med program, students must write the MCAT to apply for the Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. Students must score a 509 or higher to be accepted. The competition more robust than with the NEET exams in India. Students will complete an additional four years of study plus three or more years of residency (PG).
Other Considerations
There are limited scholarships for international students at medical universities in America. Students will require tuition payments as well as funds to live on or off campus throughout their time in the USA.
Students are also required to have an F-1 student visa to live in the USA while completing their education and residency requirements.
